Peaches and Herb
Peaches and Herb are a name that will be remembered by all music lovers, it
will sound like a cliché, but the name just "makes great music together". They
say it's not hard to rise to the top, what's really hard is to stay there,
Peaches and Herb have almost 60 records to prove a name can stay on top as long
as they want to. Enjoyed by several generations, this is an achievement few
musicians accomplish and is the ticket for immortality.
Almost forty years of music place Peaches and Herb up there with the big
ones. A number one world hit was achieved with the song "reunited" in 1980. They
have had different styles but always true to soul music.
Peaches and Herb success has not been easy, Herb had to overcome the loss of
the female singer "Peaches" four times. First there was Francine Barker, she was
the original, and together they produced many hits, "Close Your Eyes", "For Your
Love", "Let's Fall In Love" and "Love is Strange". Francine got married and
retired from public life.
Peaches and Herb was then integrated by Marlene Mack, she helped produce the
hits "Two Little Kids", "When He Touches Me (Nothing Else Matters)" and "It's
Just A Game", after that Herb started to work in the police department.
After seven years of absence, Herb and Linda Greene, a model, became the new
Peaches in Peaches and Herb. After a slow start, their songs "2 Hot" and "Shake
Your Groove Thing" became great hits and turned Gold and Platinum records. Then
"Reunited" came along, the single went Gold and Platinum. The lyrics captivated
millions, "I was a fool to ever leave your side, Me minus you is such a lonely
ride... Reunited and it feels so good, reunited 'cause we understood, there's
one perfect fit, and, sugar, this one is it, we both are so excited...I can't go
cheating, honey, I can't play, I found it very hard to stay away..." Then the
song "Roller-Skatin' Mate" and "Twice The Fire" again became gold. "I Pledge My
Love" became a #1 hit.
Then things became cold again, this time for ten years. With Patrice
Hawthorne the style was fresh and vibrant. And again "A Little Groove On The
Side" became a success and Peaches and Herb were at it again.
The male vocalist started out his career in the late '60, Herb Fame met
producer Van McCoy almost by accident and asked for an audition. The audition
was granted and pretty soon he teemed him with Francine, the rest, is history...
