Organic Herb
A organic herb is the only right way to grow herbs. The first reaction
chemicals fertilizers produce is to reduce the oxygen in the soil, this slowly
kills the microbes, worms and the rest of the life in the land. Herbs are very
sensitive, specially in their roots, they need a lot of oxygen. Most herbs won't
even stand water seeping slowly, they will drown and the roots will rot, so a
soil that not even microbes can live in is poison for them. Also, the herbs that
grow with chemicals don't develop the correct healing properties, as a plant
that is naturally grown.
There is nothing better than humus for a plant to feed on and grow. A herb
will not need soil to be too rich, this will also make the herb sick from excess
nutrients. The soil must be prepared correctly, humus for example is filled with
oxygen and will allow the roots to breath.
Also, someone who purchases a organic herb will know that the land where the
herb was produced will still be useful, land that uses chemical fertilizers will
become eroded and unusable. Land is being eroded ten times faster that it can be
regenerated, so we are risking natural balance, when no more land can be used
for cultivation and the only thing left over is useless soil that has choked
from so many artificial products, then, what will we do?
Also, when we force plants to grow artificially, the fruit or product
harvested didn't have enough time to absorb the nutrients from the soil, the
fruit will be big and colorful, but with almost zero nutritional value. The cost
of buying vitamins and minerals just to provide the nutrients the herb is
lacking will be better used purchasing a organic herb that has the vitamins and
minerals already in it.
Another positive action of purchasing a organic herb is that you give work to
the small producers, that are the only ones that risk growing things with
natural fertilizers. The big corporations use insecticides and chemicals, they
are cheaper and faster and of course they bring bigger profit margins, that's
all they care about. When the land becomes eroded, they will lease a property
somewhere else. They don't care that pesticides are more cancerous than cigars,
that farm workers that are in contact with these pesticides are a high risk
factor for cancer, more than those working in the tobacco industry! 2,740 people
are reported with pesticide poisoning every day!
