Healing Herbs
Healing herbs were probably the reason witches, shamans, priests and healers
became so powerful. The possibility of curing another human being is one of the
noblest actions a person can do. Humankind has had it's share of selfishness and
countless wars, but also, among these very villages and nations the desire to
heal and help others has also existed. This wisdom was slowly acquired by man
and many uses and procedures for a certain herb developed.
You have to admire the first healers that figured out herbs could help health
and it's simply amazing the sophistication some cultures achieved in their
knowledge of healing herbs. Some ointments and formulas require several herbs
that blossom at different times during the year. The healer had to store one
herb and then wait for the right time to harvest the other one and combine them
together. Today, we have the wealth of several cultures that used different
herbs, each available in their own locations and developed excellent ways to
restore health. Even if modern medicine looks down on herbal remedies and
healing herbs, the tradition of how they cure is valuable and is proving to be
even better than medicine in many ways.
Healing herbs like Valeriana depress the central nervous system, soothes and
relieves pain. Help epilepsy, anxiety and giddiness. It is an antispasmodic,
calmative, diuretic, sedative and stimulant!
Yohimbe has a bad reputation, mostly because it is not prepared correctly or
because something else is offered. The strong bark should be brewed for 30
minutes so the alkaloids are released. It causes an erection that can last for
several hours.
Other healing herbs are artemisa and red raspberry. Artemisa has a very
potent ingredient, called thujone. Because of it's qualities, much has been said
about this plant. It is a strong neurotoxin, antiseptic, antispasmodic, mental
restorative and stimulant. Used to stimulate the brain, for nervous diseases,
menstrual cramps and also induces menstruation. Will help with bad breath,
indigestion, gout, liver ailments and kills intestinal worms. Red raspberry is
good to use during pregnancy and childbirth usually as a tea.
For migraines the healing herbs recommended are Valerian and Wood Betony.
Valerian is probably one of the best known for this purpose. Wood Betony can be
taken as tea, three times a day. The dry herb is also smoked as tobacco.
Healing herbs for insomnia are Cannabis (Marihuana) and Cowslip. Cannabis
eases pain and induces sleep. Good for neuralgia, gout and delirium tremens. The
active ingredients do not last long, and should be kept sealed and in an
airtight compartment. Cowslip strengthens the nerves and the brain. It's a
sedative and antispasmodic.
