Aromatherapy Herbs
Aromatherapy uses herbs to produce the joyful feelings the sense of smell can
provoke. The scent of a rose or of a lemon tree are relaxing and affect the body
and mind in ways hard to describe. Some herbs in aromatherapy can also relieve
pain, stimulate and change your mood.
The brain will receive direct stimulation from the olfactory nerves as they
sense the essential oils. Smell stimulates directly the mood and emotions, as
well as memory and learning abilities.
Aromatherapy is also used in rituals, in ancient Mexico healers would place
the wounded inside a small house where herbs and vapor was released.
Aromatherapy with herbs was also used to cast away evil spirits.
Because the essential oils used are made out of herbs with medicinal
properties, aromatherapy is very powerful. Once again nature proves it's
superiority, when other oils are used that are not natural they simply don't
work. The brain or the smell do not trigger the response some herbs do.
The stimulation of the olfactory system is often neglected by the west. But
it has been proven that certain smells stimulate parts of the brain that can
give you energy or relaxation.
The herb Sage used in aromatherapy act just as it does when ingested. It's
antiseptic, antispasmodic, bactericidal. Used for menstruation problems, colic,
cramp, ulcers and urinary disorders.
Other aromatherapy herbs are Eucalyptus and rosemary. Eucalyptus is
antiseptic, analgesic, antiviral and stimulant. It helps in poor circulation, in
arthritis, throat infections and measles. Rosemary is analgesic, antimicrobial,
antiseptic, antispasmodic. If will be helpful in colitis, gout and acne. Both
are used as an insect repellents.
Aromatherapy usually goes well with a massage in the afflicted area. If some
ointments are rubbed on it the session will be even more complete.
You can put some essential oils in a vaporizer to fill a room with great
smell and healing properties. A few drops will do the trick, you can put it
where vapor comes out so that the oils don't get inside the vaporizer.
If you want extra energy, use in aromatherapy two drops of essential oils of
basil and one of cypress, or two drops of rosemary and two of bergamont. The
solutions should be mixed very well, these aromatherapy herbs can also be used
in bath salts and air fresheners, but the quantities will increase.
To improve memory and concentration, aromatherapy is being proven very
effective, Use three drops of rosemary and two of lemon, or three of lemon and
two of peppermint, again, gently mix the liquid for a smooth blend.
